Ghana coach names squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers


Black Stars coach, C K Akonnor, has named a 30-man provisional squad for Ghana’s upcoming Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup Group G qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.

Among the invited players is Columbus Crew captain Jonathan Mensah who is making a return to the team.

The list also includes five home-based players Richard Atta (Hearts of Oak), Philemon Baffuor (Dreams FC), Ismail Ganiyu (Asante Kotoko), Issahaku Abdul Fatawu (Steadfast FC), and Afriyie Barnieh of Accra Hearts of Oak.

Belgium-based Manaf Nurudeen and Majeed Ashimeru were also invited by the Black Stars coach.

Ghana will take on the Walias of Ethiopia at the Cape Coast stadium on Friday, September 3, before playing South Africa on Monday, September 6, 2021 in Johannesburg.
