African giants Al Ahly and USMA will battle for supremacy when Saudi Arabia host the 2023 CAF Super Cup at the iconic King Fahd Stadium in the City of Taif.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) have announced Saudi Arabia to be this year’s host of the Super Cup on September 15.
Current TotalEnergies CAF Champions League winners, Al Ahly SC, and Algeria’s Union Sportive de la Médina d’Alger (USMA), who won the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will battle for the glittering trophy in the country touted as the new attraction of world soccer.
CAF General Secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba explained the motive behind the decision to play the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
“We are excited to take the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup to a new territory in Saudi Arabia – a country that has been making significant strides in global football. African football ranks amongst the best in the world right now, and it’s fitting that, in an era where many international stars are heading to Saudi Arabia, African Football is also a part of this movement.”
SAFF General Secretary Ibrahim Alkassim said the decision to host the African giants “marks yet another milestone in our ongoing collaboration.”
“Our collaboration with CAF to host this event exemplifies our commitment to partnering with CAF in event hosting and match organization in line with our existing partnership”, he added.
Earlier this year, CAF and SAFF signed a landmark five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at hosting competitions and nurturing growth opportunities for both African and Saudi football.
